Translated from the Original Hindi by Kanwar Dinesh Singh

A luxurious bungalow. Cars. Servants. Comforts. An air-conditioned room. A big wardrobe and a treasure-chest. Neatly decorated bundles of currency notes. A diamond-studded gold idol of Mother-Goddess Lakshmi.

Scented incense in the right hand, a bell in the left. Pride on the face. Shrewdness in the eyes. Lips quiet, but a soft murmur in the mind.

“O Mother, be kind to me! Do not mind my insolence in boasting to my servants and helpers that I have earned everything through hard work. From the bottom of my heart, I revere Thy Grace as the sole power behind man’s progress, not the hard work. If you were not pleased, how could a poor and unworthy man like me have such a big fortune? Glory be to You! Glory be to You!”
